#202. DON’T make the tent bag half the size of the tent.

1 Comment 03 September 2012

The first time you take a tent out of its bag is the last time that that tent ever fits nicely back into it. I don’t know if there’s a worldwide shortage of synthetic material or whether it’s just one massive in-joke that tent manufacturers have agreed upon, but it gives me, and millions of other campers the shits. I’m not asking for much, just a few more millimetres of material so I don’t have to roll, squash and stuff the thing into its condom-tight bag, before straddling it, with thighs tight — like I’m riding some crocodile that’s taken me on an underwater deathroll — eventually overpowering the canvas beast and closing the bag on it with zipper teeth bulging, almost broken.

Yep, like a middle-aged man trying to wear a pair of skinny jeans, putting a tent back in its bag ain’t that easy.
